2019

piano solo

Duration: 7’

Commissioned  by Adam Scime and The Canadian Piano Left Hand Commissioning Project.

Premiered 5 June 2019 at the Canadian Music Centre, Toronto, ON.

This piece makes use of the piano’s sympathetic resonance with ghostly pitches that linger through the work. The piece is inspired by the final bars of Mahler’s Das himmlische Leben, a song that presents a child’s vision of heaven.

In order to cope with some recent serious injuries to his right arm, composer Adam Scime has commissioned eight Canadian composers to write works for piano left hand. He will premiere the pieces in this concert alongside a wonderful set of Canadian and international piano repertoire performed by Adam Sherkin.
